We’re so thrilled to announce that we won an award for Best of the World: Governance this year from B Lab, the nonprofit organization that certifies B Corps!
Out of 4,000 Certified B Corporations worldwide, we are among the top 5% B Corps in one of the five impact areas assessed as part of the certification process! Our continuous commitment towards Governance paved the way for our achievement today.
Here are some of the awesome things we are doing at Geek Girl Tech that makes us Best for the World in Governance:
- Our Commitment to Positive Social Impact: Our mission serves two main purposes: to help women and underrepresented groups gain experience in technical and non-technical roles and to help small businesses with security. Our two pronged approach helps those who need it most when it comes to cybersecurity.
- Our Financial Transparency Within the Company: We share all company financial information with our employees at least quarterly and they may request to view our financials at any time. We also choose to be transparent with salary information.
Many of us have been conditioned by our employers to believe that our pay is something to be kept private and not shared with others. In actuality, this was done by employers to avoid having to confront inequities in pay.
Transparency builds trust. When we know what others are getting paid, then we can feel empowered to ask for what we are worth. Check out this article on wage transparency. - Our Mission is Baked Into Our Legal Status: Geek Girl Tech is not only a B Corp, but also a public-benefit corporation. This is a type of C corporation – we’re a legal entity that considers social and environmental performance a part of our decision-making over time, regardless of company ownership.
